Howdy Y'all ROFL

I would be looking for several parts for a 1970 deluxe bus.

1.  Mustache or engine support bar.

2.  Tranny mount

3.  Rear crossmember body piece where engine lid clasps onto. (does that make sense?) 102

4.  Front bumper mounts.

5.  If anyone has a 1600 seized engine or block they are looking to get rid of, I might be interested in that as well.

Thanks

Thanks for the parts lesson BeetleWarrior! p14

Can I assume that since you mentioned them and called them "extras" that you would be willing to part with them for cash or trade?

Also I forgot to specify which tranny mount I was speaking of.  If the 74 is compatible with the 70 for the small front mount, then I have it.  It appears that the larger tranny bar mount that holds most of the weight near the flywheel is different on the 74 to 70, so I definitely need that one.

Thanks again for your reply Bow Down

Possible to work something out on the mustache bar.
As for the tranny mount, the '70's only mount at the front of the tranny. The mustache bar supports the motor and trans from the rear. I've never seen the '74 & '70 front mounts side by side so I don't know if they are the same.
Is the tranny a '70 or '74?

It's a 3-rib 002 that came out of my 74.  They should be the same.  I'll crawl under and try out my tranny mount.  I'm curious now about no mid mount.  I saw one for sale on ebay that said it was for a 70, but couldn't find any place to bolt it to under my 70.  I still haven't picked up my bus books.  Now must be the time since questions like this are sure to arise.

Ok that will be on hold for a couple of days.  What would you like to do on the mustache bar?  If you could use something from the 74, I would love to swap.  I also have a 77 riviera camper that is for parts.  There were no engines or trannys in parts buses, but interior was ok minus front seats.

You're holding the cards, you let me know what you might need.

Thanks again

The bay I working on right now was gutted when I got it. We'll figure something out.

I'll take some pics of the engine bay of one of my bays here in a short so you can see how it works.
The mount you were looking at, was it a mid mount or mustache bar?

Went out and took these of my '68... They are large so I will just put the url link.
They should give you an idea of what your looking far on the body.

The bar mounts to the side of the frame, just behind and to the left of the muffer.

The rubber bushing between the bar and the frame.

Great pics!  we're on the same page Thumbs up! 2  It looks like the tranny mount is different.  I will have to do some more research on compatability and whether it will need a new nosecone or just to remove the mounting hardware from the transmission. 102  I do know that a 1600 engine mounts right up to it.

Here's my pics to confirm and thanks again for your help 41

Make sure to check the input shaft length where it inserts into the gland nut. I've seen somewhere that the later model (not sure what years) trannies have a longer shaft and it has to be cut down just a little.

That case in the pic, is that your subject engine to be?

Sorry about that, I meant to reply with an affirmative Yes!.  66071 in Paola.  And I was just offering any swap you might find with my parts bus, but it's probably not a fit for your years.  Let me know your cash price if you prefer.  I also saw that you have tail lights on the bus in the pics.  I forgot to mention these in my list, but don't want to take all your backup parts.  If the lights on the rear of the bus are also for sale, I'd be interested in those too.

I read the post of "David Schwartz" I think and the tranny issues in your neck of the woods.  I have the same model as was in the 70, but it appears as if the mounting bracket is different.  I've never seen a 68-72, so I'm not sure how the mount differs, hence the pic of the nose cone.

The engine you saw mounted is a 113 which is apparently off of a super beetle in 73 I think.  I was given a bunch of parts that will nearly complete the engine.  I also understand that the A21 block is a better material than the A41.  I have a type IV engine I would love to put in the 70, but it seems that it is a difficult conversion.  Have you had any experience with this at all, or would you recommend sticking with a 1600?

Thanks again

No biggie, Oh something like $20 plus shipping. I'll have to see how much it weighs.
I need the tail lights for my project X. Some ding head covered the taillight holes and put trailer lights on it.  eusa_doh

I've got a tranny to project X that has a front mount on it, when I'm gigging out the bar I'll take a few pics of it.

A21 case, I would guess you mean AS21. Hummm... Is that one of the cases with 8mm studs instead of 10mm?

I'll take the bar and the tranny mount.  I have found some info about mounts and will prob look for a different tranny for my 70 eusa_pray

Yes I meant as41 and as21 block.  I read it refers to casting material where as21 is stronger.

I liked your renissance pix!!!  Nice looking family.  How many acres do you have?  I live on a short 10.  plenty of room for a few more buses Thumbs Up! 1
