do they require special tools, other than some minor ones.

I don't expect it would be so easy as to unbolt and bolt on new ones.  Don't they have to be under somekind of pressure or expended or contracted when putting them on.

Lay person's job?

TIA

I haven't done shock replacement before, but it should just unbolt and hand compress for re-installation. Check your Bentley, it should have a detailed description...you do have a Bentley, don't you?

Here's ratwell's advice on what shocks to buy.

if your just replacing the o.g.'s it's a simple 20 min job just un bolt and re install, now if you looking for something really cool check out some airbag's
our coil overs for a lift, but it starts getting really tech. if you start lifting stuff and messing with tire sizes.
