Hey everyone! So far Betty has a new oil pressure sender, new battery and now I want to buy new fuel lines. I do look at the internet before asking on this board but can't find out what SIZE to get. At PEP BOYS, the lines are 3/16, 1/4 ...ect. What size should I buy???

I think 3/8ths should do it. Any VW shop should have the right stuff, too. About 5' should do it, get 6' to be safe. Put the filter over the transmission, not in the engine bay.

Oops, i meant 3/16" not 3/8".
About the metal line, it should end on the other side, and there should be soft line to the tank. Crawl under the bus and look up near where the transmission and the engine meet, on the driver's side.

I bought three feet of 3/8, 1/4 and 5/16. Out of those sizes the 1/4 took a little effort to slip over the spicket thingys (the others were way big) so I used that. I put on fresh clamps and snugged them and then pulled on each line and they are really secure feeling. I went for a drive and got the lines hot and GENTLY tugged again and they are really sticking. Do you think the 1/4 will be alright???

It should be ok, as long as it is secure.

Just make sure that the fuel lines you are using are the braided reinforce kind. Normal fuel lines do not tend to last long with the heat that an aircooled engine puts out.

I got 1/4 inch fuel injection line. When you cut it you can see threads sandwiched in the middle of the rubber. I think you mean the lines with like steel on the outside. That's smart. I'll change'em in a few months. It wasn't hard and again...kind of fun!

I've thought about the steel braided ones but that was not what I was referring to. If you look hard you can find rubber fuel lines that look like they have braided strands of fiber running through them. I will try and get a picture of mine for you.
