i couldn't find anything specific on frame diagrams online. I say this because i checked out the bus in holyoke yesterday and the frame appeared different to me. The whole torsion bar seemed different. Like it ran only from the two center frame rails or something. The bus was very solid underneath! did i mention im not falling for that one again.
Does this make any sense to anybody? or am i just nutty.
Oh so the bus, bad engine , no key, no title, hand painted, body damage ...and thats the good part. Solid as a Rock though! i like it.

What year is the bus?
It is very unlikely that anyone has made modifications to the frame. If they did, non-factory work would be obvious to you.
Be more specific about what you are trying to determine about the frame? Maybe we can look at our vehicles and let you know.
Are you looking for something that is missing?

i forgot the camera when i went to check out the bus! Its a '74 like mine. when i slid under there, i thought huh, this doesn't look like mine. Maybe it just seemed different because it had the engine and heater boxes in and because it wasn't half rotted away. I'll take some pics if the opportunity arises.

thanks farmboy. If i could be more specific i would, hehe. the guy got back to me today. the bus is mine if i want it. I'm gonna pop by this weekend, double check that frame and post a few pictures before i buy it. Only have to come up with half the cash and i can pay him the rest later! super cool of the guy. he got ripped off on his bus pretty good. payed way to much, shipped it from cali and has never drove it. wants it gone. the PO told him the title was in the glovebox, when he opened the glove box door, nothing. not even a glove box. never even sent the keys and the carbs and everything were stuffed in the back seat. Hes gonna take out a loan and get a fully restored one in the spring! i hope you guys are gonna like this thing, im really excited!

The Bus in Holyoke may have a belly pan? Is the frame difference in front of the tranny and enclosing what is an open area on the bus you have at home? If so you may have a gasoline fired heater hidden above that pan! that means great heat if you can resurrect it.

hmmm... it was the part in front of the tranny that through me off. Would the pan be over the area where the control flaps and according tubes are for the heating system and ending shortly in front of those? it was tight in there, i thought it was sitting lower than mine, but maybe that through me off. I'll hopefully grab some pics tonight or tomorrow. I'm gonna go check my bus again.

No, a belly pan is completely in front of the tranny and rear suspension components.

it was bare metal, thats normal right?

Suspension components and engine tin including heater boxes and control flaps should be black and the undercarriage of the uni body would be same as original body color with black under coating covering it. OG undercoating is probably flaking off and you may have rusty bare metal spots showing.

Don't worry about the tranny or engine you already have a running combo in the parts bus. Look at the foundation dude, that bus is pretty clean looking under there. Strip the orange one of evry little bit that you can get off of it and what a package you will have.
