Santa was good to me and I get to replace all the door seals on Whinnie Thumbs Up! 1 I'm going to order them from bus depot but could not find any adhesive to install them. What does one use?  Tips/tricks? Never done anything like this before.    thanks and a half p14

NAPA® Online

What was recommended to me, sticks fast but easy to manipulate. You don't need to remove all the old adhesive, just the loose stuff. You don't need to glue every single inch either. Do glue each corner.

Bill

PS:
1 tube is more than enough for both front doors and slider.

Thanks for the link Bill. I have a Schucks just a couple of blocks from home and stoped there today to see if they had that. Nope all they had was Permatex. I was going to get that as it sounds the same. You know, Coke / Pepsi kind of thing right. But the guy that has run the place for at least the last eighteen years (as long as I've known him) took me outside and told me he thought the 3M suff was better. I had to ask why of coarse, and he said "two reasons." "It takes much longer to harden over time and it just feels better". He also said the better glue could add a couple of years of life to the seals as they (the seals) break down faster when as the glue hardens. When the glue finaly hardens the wear increases as the seal itself takes on the friction that was absorbed by the adhesive at the point of adhesion breaking down the rubber more quickly than before the glue lost it's plyability. Wow I hope I remembered this right:)
So I'm going to NAPA and getting some of that 3M glue and wait for my seal to get here Smiley Thanks again....Oly

I also use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. I have to replace my rubber seals probably more than most as living out here in the California desert near Death Valley they seem to not last too long.

I installed busdepot door and slider seals, they fit ok. They're different than the original ones in the top rear corner. They seal well enough for me, resist the temptation to adjust your doors after install. The seals will settle in. Made a huge difference in heating the bus. The doors are harder to shut if all the windows are up. Bus is almost as airtight as new. It's funny if we both shut our doors at the same time with windows up either one or both will spring open because of the compression. If the bilge blower asst is running when you shut the door you can hear it almost stop from the air being forced back down the heat vents because of the compression of the air in the bus due to the tight seals.

I'll be sure to add my $.02 when the time comes. However Bill described my expectations to a T. Though I can't wait for the "resist the temtation to adjust the door" part Huh. So Bill, does that idea apply to the front doors and or the slider?
You say they fit ok and seal well enough, would you buy the same ones if you had to do it again or would get the pricey OEM ones?
Cal Westy, just for the heck of it, how often do you have to replace seals where you are and which do you use, the aftermarket or OEM? Thanks guys.....Oly

The slider seal is a better seal. With the door seals at less than $20 bucks a pop, and taking an hour or so to install both sides, it wouldn't bother me to do it every 3 or 4 years. If they are falling apart and/or shrinking in a year or less I'd pop for the German ones. I'll keep you posted.

Almost forgot. "Resist the temptation to adjust the doors" I'm referring to the front doors. It's very difficult to shut the front doors for a few days. I do mean difficult! The other thing that happened was I developed a terrible wind whistle. It would whistle just shutting the door. It would whistle loudly anywhere over 40mph. It was air escaping by the inner window scraper on the passenger door. I kinda hack fixed it by prying it away from the sill and using some trimmed fender welt with some of the adhesive to hold it up tight to the glass.  Drogar-Smile(LBG) Works for me but some may be offended.

In the 5 yrs I've had my 69 Westy I've replaced the seals, door, hatch etc 3 times. In my experience it doesn't make much difference whether the seals are OEM or aftermarket. Last front door seals were German(supposedly) but were cracked and weathered in a year.
