I checked my brake fluid reservoir.  It's MT.

The brakes work, no squeal, but I feel they could "catch" quicker.  Just getting to knew my "new" bus.

Should I just add fluid and the see if it leaks somewhere? Is there another place to check.

Fill it up immediately and get someone to help you bleed the brakes and do not drive it until you do .
Welcome to LMB , btw .

There is two resovoirs. the top one is in the bus and a tube goes down to the second one on the master cylinder. Yes you can bleed it. have a friend pump the pedal slowly five times and hold it down while you open the bleeder starting at the right rear then left rear then right front and end with left front. pump slow so as not to cause foaming. bleed each wheel till clear fluid runs with no air bubbles. good luck...vwbr Smoker

The low pedal is also likely a sign of the brakes being in need of adjustment.  All that takes is a sturdy screwdriver, a jack and a string of curses when you find the adjusters frozen.  But hopefully they'll be free enough, maybe only needing with some prodding with a hammer.
