new to forum
new to 70 bus
not new to life.

I just picked up my bus, the AC doesn't work and the front dash part of it is now in the trash.
The compressor, I think it is called is on the left of the motor,
and there is something underneath the center of the bus, looks like refrig. coils, I am assuming it belongs to the AC unit.

My questions are:

Can I remove the center section without effecting any other part of the bus.
Will I be able to remove the compressor as when without effecting the workings of the bus

Is this a smaller job that I, who is not a wrench, do?

TIA

Having never seen or worked on a Bus that has A/C my advice cannot be specific, though I have read about and worked on other vehicles so I may be able to give some general advice.

1) If the thing under the center is part of the A/C system and not an oil cooler than it will be the condenser or evaporator (can't remember which is which at the moment). Either way you can remove it, without harm to the car. With that said, it is technically illegal to remove this part without have the freon sucked out by a licensed shop, as it is most likely still R12.

2) ^^The same goes for the Compressor. On some vehicles you can remove the compressor and then get an appropriate sized belt that will make up the difference in length. On others, you may need to get different brackets to keep the alternator in alignment with the fan pulley. Again I don't know on a bus if this is a consideration or not, just some generally thoughts from me to you.

Hello and Welcome bus boy john,
The part under the bus that looks like refrig. coils is called the condenser. If the system is still connected it may contain freon. You can undo the hose and allow it to vent. Don't want to breath any if possible. It leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.
You can remove the compressor, should just be an extra belt.
The center part you mentioned... Is this connected to the roof of the bus?
If so you may need help to get it down because of the hoses.

Welcome to LMB good plan to get rid of the a/c even if your on a hot part of the planet. This is the worst torcher to your motor when it's on. But I'm prejudice against a/c because of heat in the desert. BeetleWarrior talk good MoJo. good luck...vwbr Smoker

thanks all for your advice-
yes Arizona is hot, but it doesn't work orginal to the orginal owner-so i figured get rid of all the extra parts and weight.
I see no belts anymore hooked up to the compressor and I'll look at the condenser, after I take off the pannel (vent).  The condenser is under the center of the bus, nothing on top.

I did see one guy riding around with what we call a "swamp cooler" on his bus.

He had 8 gallons of water in the "closet" and a motor that moves the water to a wetable material then a fan blows the cool air in the bus.

Thanks again people
