My 77 Westy does not have the original type 4 engine. It has a type 1. How can I tell if the engine is from an older bus or a type 1 bug. Can I get some information from what the tranny looks like?

the only diff between a "bus" and "bug" engine is the mustache bar mounts on the case.  Same innards, heads, carbs, tin, etc....

Welcome Greenhorn! Welcome

I'm a Floyd-head.  If you have a shot of Animals, that came out the same year as your bus! Hi
