Wonder if I could put the porta-walls on temporarily for car shows and then take 'em off? The beauty ring idea sounds better

You would either need to have your own tire mounting and balancing machine or take them to a shop to have them installed before every show.

beauty rings is DEFINITELY the way to go (thanx)

As you can see from this picture, the inside lip fits between the bead of the tire and the rim, therefore necessitating the removal of the tire from the rim in order to remove the port-a-walls.

There is a way to cheat ! Let air out of tire, lay tire on it's side, stand on tire . Don't stand on rim stand on sidewall, bounce your weight on the tire near the bead. This should break the bead, if it doesn't, grab your BFH and hit the tire by the bead near your toes. Once you have broken the bead insert your porta-walls and reinflate. Here is the scary part. If the bead won't reseat, spray a little starter fluid into the the tire past the broken bead, step back and throw matches at it till it explodes. The bead will now be set. I have done this a few times, it does work, it's a little scary. Google "tire ether" you'll find a video.
whachu want silly bling for anyway?

Nankang's 185r/14's D load range. Wasn't too crazy about these tires when I first got them. They are pretty inexpensive(55 per) and have a unusual tread pattern. After 12,000 miles they are wearing well and are holding up. I mostly drive them on dry roads, but have driven in winter/snowy conditions and am happy with them. After blowing out a non-spec tire last year I definitely recommend  the propern spec. tire! Who the H#ll cares what they look like, they are tires!

Update: Got the Hankook RAo8 195R14's on all around and on the spare. They are really great, and seem to be about 1 inch taller than the 185 car tires the PO had on(they were NOT RAo8's) and fill up the wheel hubs nicely. I have 38psi in the fronts and 42psi in the rears.  I'd recommend them anyday! Thumbs up! 2 Thumbs up! 2 Thumbs up! 2
