Yeah, I'm naming her the Orangesicle...

Anyway, I changed the plugs and adjusted the valves.  I forgot to put new gaskets on the valve covers, so I have to do that tomorrow...when I change the oil.  The engine was smoking oil when I pulled into the driveway!

Needs work... probably a front end alignment after I get the dents out and floorboard straightened out.  BUT she drives a lot better than before.  I was actually able to get her into 4th gear!  The steering is really whack.  I don't know if it's just that I'm used to power steering, but it feels very loose.  I'm going to have to make sure the wheel is tight (I think it is, though).  Quite a bit of drift.

My oldest stepson has a friend over today and he thinks the Orangesicle is sweet.  They were both diggin it, sitting in the back on the floor and on top of the engine compartment.  Also strange that they think it's weird that the engine is in the back. Kids!

You don't really need to change the gaskets every time you adjust the valves. I have adjusted mine a couple of times plus I have pulled the covers off 5-6 additional times and have yet to replace the gaskets that came with the motor. The trick is using a little dab of wheel bearing grease to hold the gaskets to the cover.

The slack in the steering might be solved by adjusting the "screw" on the steering gear box. I have not done this, but there are plenty of write ups on the samba.

Otherwise, congrats on your first outing with the Orangesicle!!! eusa_dance eusa_clap Thumbs up! 7

Hmmm... thanks for the advice!  The gaskets are pretty thin, so I want to change them out anyway.  I'll check on the adjustment screw, too
