What you will have to do is first sand or scruff up your paint and do whatever body work needs doing . Then a good primer and then your color or , as in my case , colors sprayed . Then clear coated . Then your air brush art work . Use good automotive paint for any spraying . After the art work you will need to have that clear coated as well .
On the top of my bus , ya know the white part , I am going to hand paint that with One Shot paints in a tye-dye motif . Actually sort of plan on painting the Magic Bus along the lines of my avatar only slicker .

hey land got an idea for you before you take it to the shop if you're considering....get a buddy or two...rent a couple sanders (or if you have one or two you can borrow) and over a weekend strip the bus yourself. this will have ALOT of money. if you plan on havin all the work done you shouldnt worry about hitting the weatherstripping(seals) because  they should be replaced anyway. when you strip it dont be shy. go with anywhere from 40-120 grit paper depending on what you can find in the store. a case of beer and a couple of buddies and you might get it done in a night. WEAR A DUST MASK AT LEAST if not a respirator. and SAFETY GLASSES. paint dust in you eyes is not fun. you might be surprised that the body wont be so bad after all Smiley

One thing to remember if a pro does it they charge by the hour for cleaning and prep. If you go to someone just to spray it that's all they do you have to prep the work first. I'd at least strip and primer yourself that way you know whats under you new paint. You'll also know you cleaned all the small nooks out where rust can appear. A paint shop might not be worried about getting every detail on a repaint.
