I have had my bus for a couple of months now, I have done some standard tune up and checks on it, but this morning I got some brandy new Hankook RA08 185R14C tires on her.  The difference was instantly noticeable, the old tires were standard passenger car tires that were starting to dry rot so the bus was really squishy, now with the correct tires she feels really good, and I can actually steer her with one hand!!!  If you don't have the correct tires on your bus, or don't know what you are supposed to have on it, check out Ratwell or the Samba tire thread, I went with the Hankooks because they were readily available, they took a week to get in at my local discount tire, the price was more than on bus depot, but I didn't have to pay shipping, they charge more if you bring your own tires in for installation, and they have free repair, rotations, and balancing for the tires life, so in the end I think I payed about $6 more than if I had ordered them online myself.     eusa_dance

Yah when I put the what I thought was Class "C" rated tires on my last bus, I noticed a huge improvement. Funny after I got them on and told Les Schwabs that I wanted a class "C" rated tire Dj Eep came over and him and I were looking at them and they are not a class C rated tire. However they are damn close, nice sturdy tires- good sturdy sidewall with deep traction. I may go with the Hankook's for my new bus.

For those that like to really get out in the pucker brush on fire trails for camping, the Hankooks suck. Have them on my Bus and they are great tires......for the road. They even suck on wet grass, let alone some wet clay. Always consider what you are doing when stopping or turning around on a trail. If you nose down a slope trying to get turned around and you are on wet grass or clay you may have quite a bit of difficulty backing up to finish turning around.

Have RA08s also.  No problems here and they actually hold their air for a long period of time unlike any of my Grand Am tires.  Doh!  That and the new shocks make everything feel "firm" but not "stiff", if that makes any sense.

I have the Hancooks as well but went with the 195R08's for the higher load rating and slightly wider and taller size. I love 'em!

I wish Bilstein made shocks for bays - apparently somebody over on the samba has found bilsteins made for another vehicle that fit a bay bus with the right bushings. I've heard that the gas-a-justs & KYB's are a little too 'stiff' and it may be best to go with the stock hyd. Boge ones if you want a regular good ride..... (they are cheaper too)What  so you guys think?

I put on 4 new BOGE ones and like I said, nice ride.  http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111513031g
I try to stay stock if possible with parts though.  I don't know about the bays, but be warned:  the old bushing likes to stay on the shock mount on the split's front axle!!  eusa_doh  Major PITA
