I love the hardwood look! Thinking about doing that to my 75 or perhaps the 70 with the wood roof plug. Curious if you are using real hardwood flooring or laminate? I have plenty of laminate and like that it is so thin. Because so thin, probably need sub-floor. Does the diagonal pattern allow you to get away without sub flooor because of ridges in floorboard? Can't wait to see the rest.

this is full thickness maple board. it is about 1/2 " thick. i went diagonal aftr setting it in there all different ways. it makes it a bit more difficult because of all of the funky cuts i have to make. i simply glued it down with a commercial flooring adhesive sanded the piss out of it an pu on a coat of poly. the oak is a cabinet grade veneer. very nice.
i think it will look groovy when it is all done.

Just curious, did you use any sub-flooring?? Most people I've seen do this used a sheet of plywood under the finished floor. Than again, most people that I've seen do this used photographs of wood (read laminate).

NO sub flooring was needed as this is hard maple and is sturdy. it was very time consuming because once glued down the individual boards were not all level. so i had to plane them then belt sandwith 150 and then DA sand them with 220 before poly-ing them. i have maybe 10 hours in the floor! heres another pic after more work. the seats lift up and the black "table top" also is removable for storage http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b170/flyguyskt/PB270183.jpg

That flooring is absolutely gorgeous. I'll keep this thread in mind when I get my bus.

That looks great! I too, am going with the wood floor. I got my rocker welded in last weekend , so, time to find the wood. I found some really nice bamboo that's sliced different than all the standard cuts. The only prob. is ,it's about $175 a box and they won't break a box. A box will do about 4 Westy's. If anybody's interested in splitting a box with me , I can take a pic an post it.

I love the look! I don't want to rain on your parade...but did you do anything to the rust on the floor to neutralize it before you glued the boards down? It looks like you might have quite a bit of it in that first pic. If your floor is glued down, you'll have no way of checking out the floor to see if the rust is getting worse!

actually the only place there was any rust was righ by the door . i'm sure from the window leaking.
the reast of the floor was covered by some black tar stuff. i glued right to it. i of course checked to see if i would get a good bond to it. i did . thanks though.

No problem! It just looked like in the picture that there was some rust. The work you've done so far looks really nice. I'd like to do something like that with the '74 I just bought.
