I bought yet another roof rack for my split, only to discover it's for a bay. I'm bound to get it right one of these days. Anyway, it's an all metal, original VW 3/4 rack and is in pretty nice shape for it's age. Very little rust, one of the clamps has some surface rust, but otherwise it's held up well. There's no bends in anything, and it's not been beat to crap, it just doesn't fit a split because the splits' roof arcs a little higher, so the rack actually sits on the roof instead of over the roof. I may be able to get my money back, but if anyone's interested, you can have it for $450 plus whatever shipping would cost. I've no idea how to send something that large, but hey, it's your nickel. You set it up and I'll make it happen. Lemme know before it's too late.

Not a problem there Wiz. I'll get some posted up sometime today. Thanks for reading the ad. It really is a nice rack. If I knew how to weld I'd cut and extend the legs so I could keep it. This is the second one that I've bought that didn't work out, albeit for a different reason.

Rack pics. There are 2 clamps that need painting. Again, just surface rust. There's a couple pieces of celophane tape around the front bar; I've no idea why. As you can see, it's straight as an arrow.
Click the pics to enlarge them.

Bummer John, could Turbo just make extensions for the legs? I can help you get a "westy rack" if you want..? Maybe just put some rubber/foam tubbing under the rack where it touches..?

I hate to bastardize it, since it's so nice. If I can't get my money back out of it for whatever reason, then I think that's what I'd do. I was pretty stoked about the whole thing, having wanted a rack for so long, and really liking the style of that one. I may just go ahead and do the Westy rack just to scratch the itch, even though the Westy racks definitely look better on a Westy bus. If I had my druthers, it'd be a full length, all metal rack with the front of it made to follow the curved contour of the front of the roof. BIG money for those.
This one actually sits ON the roof. If I put the clamps on one side tight enough to pull the feet into the gutters, the feet on the other side are about 3 inches out of the gutter. I'm afraid if I really pull and clamp it down, I might bend the rack, the roof, or both.
They say 3's a charm. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Sorry for the late response... but I have the same rack for my bay,and I got it from a splittie. I think I just had to lightly bend the legs or something and it fits fine.
