'71 Bus trannies?
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:59:59 AM »
What years of trannies could I put in my '71? I've read that after '75 there is a discrepancy around the length of the input shafts. I've found a 75 or 76 tranny that a vw mechanic thinks will work as long as I put my bell housing on. Any advice?

Bit late and you have probably solved problem. Most Type2 boxes can be adapted by using correct bellhousing and clutch.
Late model trannies may need approx 1/2 inch cut from  first section of rod from shift lever

Thanks for the info. I actually found an exact '71 tranny and she's running well. I got the bus inspected and I've been able to drive it regularly for the first time in almost two years. Ahh....
