Transmission Bench Testing?
« on: July 05, 2010, 07:11:57 AM »
Is there any way to bench test a use transmission? I think mine is on it's way out and I've found a few in junkyards for a quarter of the price of a newly overhauled one. I thought about taking an old clutch, putting a handle on it, and lining up the splines, cranking and seeing what happens. I am a herculean odonis but will I be able to apply enough force?

you can at least shift it through the gears and turn the axle flanges, feeling for binding and watching the shaft.

If you do get one go ahead and install new seals on th input shaft and at the seals at the CV cups....... Best time to do it... Be sure to change the oil in it too............ thumb1

You mean the inner CV's aren't supposed to puke a sludgey mix of 80w90 and moly grease?
