Good to hear.  I think there may be a problem with the 205/30pict combo.  Totally speculating here, but I think it won't work, since the dizzy vac on a 30pict rises with the throttle, since the vac-only dizzy needs constant vac to hold the advance.  Dual advance dizzy needs vac only until the throttle is opened more than halfway or so, then the mechanical advance kicks in.  Dual/30 combo might over advance and cook the engine.

And a doof doof, boomshanka doof to you too bodge! :BanDance:

Good thinking Eep.
It's back to the batcave for a re-think.
It's a good job your here or my engine could be toast.

maybe I'll leave the 009 in till I have a happy bunny stock dizzy in my grip.
I was looking at one for sale at an auto jumble the other day and it was a 113905205t vac only unit but it seemed to only have as much travel in the advance plate as the one I already have which only gives max 20degrees advance even if I suck the darn thing myself. (things are getting weird for the neighbours, now watching me sucking at my engine lol) (my wife has lost all hope). lol

Cheers

Thanks Brookie, I am aware the 009 is wrong for a type 2 but if you read my earlier posts and also the link to the other forum within these posts, you will see my plight with my distributors.

my 009 is still running the sweetest at the moment.

it should, though you may need to tap the carb for the correct vacuum signal.  Not sure how on webers, but I do know it is best to tap both an put a T in the line, so the signal isn't pulsing.

EDIT:  Aircooled.net says nothing about needing to tap IDFS, but you could call them and ask.

(aircooled) noob here.  My girlfriend and I recently picked up a 1975 FI bus.  The motor was rebuilt years ago and never put back in.  Needless to say, lots of things were lost, thrown in there etc...  I was told that there was a dizzy somewhere in the bus and the one I found ends in 007.  I'm told it isn't even a VW dizzy.  It's got no vacuum piece on it just the solenoid.  the part # is 0 231 178 007

Let me know what you think.  Should I ditch it and get a dizzy w/ the vac piece on it?

With gas prices as they are, it will save you money to buy one today.  With a 20% increase in mileage it will be paid for in about 13 fill ups.

With the bus only being ran up for 5-10 min. every two weeks and not moving out of the driveway right now, except for quick runs around the block, I am spending 0 money on gas right at present. Which is a lot cheaper than $150. Plus I need to do rear brakes, safety first ya know.

But I see your point and hope to get one before next summer.  :yes!:

I bought a new Mallory dizzy yesterday as a matter of fact . Bought it from an old guy , Yep older than me even . It is the dual point model with out the vacuum can . It was new and just purchased several years ago .
Got if for $20.00 . Also bought several tools as in gauge type that I needed to replace in my tool box for another $30.00 . That included ; vacuum gauge , tach and dwell meter , compression tester , timing light , and a couple of others that I can't recall at the moment and I don't want to wake up my darling spousette to check .
Any way , as usual , I think I did rather well .
Today I stopped over at a friend of mines shop that specializes in VeeDubs . Another old guy , but like me this time .
And he said that plugging off the vacuum post on the carb really was not going to make any difference because  the dizzy was gonna work just fine .
Well friends that's my story for today and I'm sticking to it .  :LMAO:
Best regards, wizza

, temps are down,
the main reason for this is on the stock VAD's the lobe for #3 is retarded 3*. the reason for this is as everyone knows #3 runs hotter than the rest so retarding the timing on it brings the temp down so all 4 are consistant. this is why it is very important to make sure that your dizzy drive gear is installed correctly when you build your motor.
if it ain't aircooled it ain't worth having!
