My bus has a 009. It is my intention to replace it with a vac one when I can find a good stock one. I heard from a friend that It would be better to source one from a type 2 engine and not from a type 1 as he thought the weights were different.

My bus runs very well with the 009 on my stock single port 1600 engine until I hit a long gradual incline when fully loaded. It starts to pink and I find myself dropping gears to 2nd very often until I can build revs up again.

I hadn't thought about getting a new one. what is the build quality like on these new fangled contraptions? :Drogar-Shock(LBG):

Great.  They take brand a new mexican bosch and then add their own vac pot with a custom set curve right here in the USofA.  I have heard nothing but good about these things.  And now I have one.  You do have to take it easier on hills, pedal-wise to avoid pinging, but it takes less pedal to make the same amount of power, so it evens out once you get used to it.

I wonder if they export these to the uk?

Thanks.
I have sourced a good bosch one (113905205t) which I believe is the correct one for my van.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Interesting... :Drogar-Thinking(LBG): I'm gonna check mine. My bus won't start anymore. It's not the carb of course but I believe the strater. I had some issues with the solienoid, ya spell check that baby. It has like on screw nad was rigged. Tightend up the screw , no worries. Now the bus will not start :p7: It has power to the radio and such so it isn't the battery, so must be the starter. It's probally due to be changed. It's the least we can do for here. Wish someone could change my starter but that would hurt :030:  The bum of it is . I just got my rack and other goodies for her and I can't enjoy them when she wont start :071: :074: :072: :027: :068: :021: :093: Can you feel my fustration

You should enjoy your rack in the privacy of your own home......or in the bus......or at the ???????????.  Oh, never mind.

Hi Guys
I have fitted my stock distributor but have had advance problems.
see this post for details http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=355832.
My 009 is back on and set up to 30 deg btdc maximum advance which gives me an idle of about 7-8 btdc.

What do you oversea folk think :Drogar-Smile(LBG):

I don't see what the problem is.  The Stock Dizzy is supposed to give you only about 20* of advance.

Hi eep
This information is taken from oldvolkshome website.

Timing Set At:: 0deg TDC Static or @ 800-950rpm w/strobe w/vacuum hose disconnected and plugged
Advance/Retard Range: Vacuum (Advance Only): 17-19deg @ 1.3 In. Hg, 32-35deg @ 3.2 In. Hg

The last bit states that there should be 32-35 deg advance at full vac
the bus is very flat and lacks power. If I time it at tickover at 7.5 btdc it will still only give me 27 deg advance.
Did you read on the other forum post that I think the vac can to have too little travel?

poop, I mis-read the last part.  I saw only the 17-19deg stat.

It sounds like you have a dead can.  That is why we have 009's, because the old cans used to die a lot.  Se if you can trade in for a working one somewhere.  I have a couple stock dizzies, but they are DVDAs for 71-on buses.  Otherwise, keep the 009 on there till you can find one that works.  Better than nada.

UPDATE.
hi guys,
Just got back from a small road trip and have found my van to have a new lease of life with the 009 timed at 30degrees max advance.
For the first time ever people were getting in my way and I found myself having to brake whilst going uphill lol.

I am still looking for a good stock one but am going to try a vac/mechanical 205al dizzy to see what happens with that one first as I still have a 009 flat spot when pulling off.

I worked out that I am getting about 18 miles to the gallon on country roads and some freeway driving fully loaded with people and kit.

I am considering fitting some kind of electronic ignition when I finally settle on which distributor I wish to use.

Rave On
