Title: Whadda ya got?
Post by: Dj:Eep on October 29, 2007, 08:37:10 AM
Is it a Westy? a Deluxe? a Transporter?

Check behind the seats or under the dash (later model buses) and look here:

Except for the engine & tranny, mines an all original, orange , with the hideous orange plaid that I love,'74 westy.
I think what I like the best the stripe, It was an addition "back in the day" to try and boost flagging sales.

Janis started out life as a pastel white kombi, comissioned the year, month, week, and possibly day I was getting my little ass slapped when I was born! That site didn't have my particulars (the last 3 digits on the whole thing) but it was a hoot finding out the info. Thanks Mr. Eep, sir.

Where is it, exactly? My M plate must be somewhere under the PO installed, glued on carpet. (If it's still there at all.) Where would I peel the carpet back? I'd like to see that M-code.

It's behind the driver seat mounted to the support wall.

I have a question, what is the difference between a kombi and a station wagon? They are different weights in my owners manual, so what's the diff? :102:

A Kombi has a stripped down spartan interior, it should have some rear seats but not much in the way of trim. Kombi equals Kombination passenger/commercial use. IIRC.

I thought the Kombi is basically a panel van with windows, so no interior, other than dash and front seats.

That would be in commercial configuration. The Kombi meant you could use it either way, I believe they came with seats when you bought them.

That sounds right about the Kombi/station wwagon scenerio. In my 73 owners manual, the panel is the lightest at 2,745lbs, then the Kombi at 2,922lbs, the station wagon at 3,043lbs and finally the campmobile (westy) at 3,296lbs. I guess the 121 xtra lbs are trim and seating etc....

A 1971 bay window , recon 1600 engine ,twin dell carbs, elec. ign, stainless steel exhaust ,empi shifter , and a whole lot of other standard new stuff fitted painted her blue, cost me about 10 dollars to do.i built the interior myself .and i service /maintain her myself also.>>>I LOVE MY BUS !in fact i lived in her for a loooong time !(which is largely illegal here .)
