I was having trouble with my starter on my 71 bus.It wouldn't turn over or click or anything.intermitten.It would then just start OK.I replaced starter and it worked OK for awhile, then did same thing.I replaced the ignition switch and again it worked for awhile then it just did it tonight.The starter has a ford solenoid attached to the starter for extra help.I am going to replace this as well.MY question is what am I missing.I don't know what else to look at.The battery terminals are clean and secure and the ground straps look OK nothing loose.Any suggestions I am tired of being stranded help before i go bald from pulling my hair out.

Check the ground strap on the tranny nose cone.  If it's in bad shape, replace it. If it's in decent shape, loosen and tighten the nuts a few times to clean up the connection.  Ditch the old ford solenoid and replace it with a Bosch "Hot Start Relay".  A good FLAPS or NAPA should have one.

Thanks for the reply.I looked at the strap it looked good but removed it anyway and was a little dirty at both ends>cleaned and put back together also changed relay.and replaced battery cable.so far all is working good thanks for the ideas
