I replaced my windshield wiper shafts today and thought I'd do a little write-up for those who have not done them before. Bentley did not do a fantastic job in explaining the process but good enough that somebody with some mechanical experience can fudge their way through it.

I ordered all of my parts from Bus-boys and the total was as much as just one side from Busdepot. Roughly $50 including shipping.

First you must remove your windshield wiper cap and nut, since mine broke off last fall I did not have to do this step. Next is a little plastic nut cover, I could not find anyone who carries these so you will want to hold onto your old ones.

After you pull off the nut cap, there is a 11/16 nut underneath (imagine that)

Remove the nut and you will most likely find, like I did, that your seals have gone completely and that is why your fuse box is full of water.

Next you will move into the inside of the bus. First you will want to remove the wiper switch (72 and prior only). Be sure to mark the wires that you take off of the switch. You will only need to remove the wires going to the motor, the rest can stay. I photographed the wires as well as made a little diagram.

It will make your life easier if you remove the cardboard glove box. Then you need to remove all of the plastic vent ducting in the center of the dash. Then remove the one 10mm bolt that mounts the motor and guide the whole assembly out through the passenger side.

Now remove the ball joint from the transmission arms by prying them apart. An open end wrench works well for this. Next remove the c-clip that is located on the top of the shaft, it holds the shaft to the bearing. Once removed pull the two washers off and slide the shaft out. Remove the 11/16 nut from the bottom and your bearing will be out.

Now you get to remove the c-clip from your new kit and reverse the process.

Finally slide the assembly back into place, mount your motor and then put on the seals.

Finally use your two washers with the crush washer in between, and then tighten down the nut. Put your wiper arms on and tighten down the nut. My wipers must have come off a different bay because the nuts and caps don't work with them. One of mine is also stripped out so I will need to replace them anyways.
