Does anyone have a diagram, or a link, for the horn wiring for my '73 Kombi? The horn works, I tested it, but the wiring needs to be checked I guess.
I checked my Bentley and other books... nothin'!

Funny you mention this as my horn suddenly seems to work and not work randomly.

Willoughby's horn didn't work on when I got him either. The wire had come disconnected from the armature and eventually grounded out to the shaft, which meant that I had horn every time I put my key in. The contacts were also dirty, so I cleaned them up. I loving refer to this as my little miss sunshine moment. You can read more about it here. http://www.lovemybus.com/forum/little-miss-sunshine/little-miss-sunshine-moment/0/For an intermittently working horn it is usually the case that the wire has become bare where it exits the steering shaft. This causes it to ground out sporadically with bumps or turns.

Don't know what year the attachment method changed, but in late Bays ther is an easy solution sometimes. If you horn doesn't work, and the self canceling on your turn signals starts to malfunction, this might work. Look on the plastic housing, on the column. Near where your left knee would be, you will see a hole, with a socket head screw in it. If you look between your steering wheel hub and the switch housing, there should be a small gap, it should be very small 1/16" or so. If there is a large gap, your housing has slipped down the column. I can't remember the size allen wrench, but if you loosen that socket head screw and slide the switch housing back up and retighten you may find the horn works and the turn signals self cancel.

Not certain, but I know that at least on my 72 (one year only) turn signal switch does not cancel.

I mounted my Ahooga horn in the stock horn spot and the button was an old style metal button that attaches to the steering column . Peace , ~W

This is all good info... I should have clarified that I don't want a wiring schematic. I can't read them. I actually need a drawing of how the horn is wired. BUT this info about the turn signals and everything is good, cause the mount is unbolted from the steering column. I need to replace that or fix it, anyway. I will also remove the button and check the wiring. Thanks!! - David

I'm going to look into this a bit this weekend. My horn didn't work again today so I gave it a little smack and it was good as new! But needs to be fixed better than that!

Your contacts are probably dirty and the springs that the button rides on may have a little gunk in them.

i got my horn to work last night... the connector at the base of the steering column has gotten loose. i had to make sure when reattaching that the wire doesnt get snaged on the steering "thingy" at the bottom. in the interior "thingy" cover is a little loop that you run the wire through to keep it out of the way of the "thingy"...
