Well,   It's my turn....... I have the 73 Adventurewagen..."Clyde".......

My gas gauge wasn't working.........so during my last engine out episode i removed the tank and tested the wire to the gauge by grounding the spade terminal............. instantly the gauge worked fine...........So i tested the sender and it didn't work at all........ 

I replaced the sender , engine ,etc and filled the tank up........ gauge reads full........ Drove on a cruise around about 65+ miles total and it reads about 1/4 tank left.......?    I decide that can't be right and fill up again....... i was down 6-7 gallons............ Now it pegs full again...........  I am wondering if the gauge is bad or if i got a bad sender........... Not going to pull the engine for a long time again i hope....... I may have to live with it.....

Question is .... anyone have a good way to test the gauge for acuraccy?   I know there probably is i'm just not aware of it.............

I dunno.  Nice mileage though.

Well the sender is a rheostat so you can measure the ohms at different fuel levels. You should get a nice smooth curve as the tank goes lower. If that is all right then the gauge must be bad. This is my best guess without pulling the tank.

I 've noticed that with most of the cars I've owned over the years, they all have had that 1st 1/4 tank of a full tank lasts forever thing going on. On my '77 Bus it's the opposite, that last 1/4 tank is the one that lasts forever. It takes quite a few miles to get to the red reserve once under the 1/4 tank mark.

  I'd stop for gas if the next gas was posted as 50-100 miles ahead though!

I'll have to do every 2 hour fill up..... if i'm at 65 - 70 mph...just to be safe............... Speedo not hooked up yet........ I have to modify the cable hole in the front spindle....... Since it's a 2-1/2" raised spindle the hole is in direct line with the lower balljoint and the cable won't make the turn......

I'll work something out......

im having kind of the same problem! i broke down the other day because i had no fuel even though my gauge said 1/4. i thought maybe it was just out of wack. need to take off the dash and have a proper look.

I dunno.  Nice mileage though.

I can't judge the mileage yet................ I did a lot of tuning on that tank load too............... and it does have a 4 bbl Holley.....and i have a heavy foot..... 

If i get 16 -17 fine tuned that's fine...... any more would be better.................. I don't worry about gas mileage if i'm having fun......   

I drag raced a 04 Chevy 4x4 yesterday to the next red light and he had to get behind me...............We both gassed it hard and he lost....."Clyde" is very quick in the first 3 gears.. ...... really fun to see the looks and laughs.....
