Now that I've done the whole brake thing on my wheels, and really I've only had to do them because one or more of the cylinders have failed, heck, one on the front and one on the back(whinnie had sat for 8 plus years). Shoes where next to new yet the cylinder failure leaked fluid on the shoes. Should I matter of coarse now replace the master cylinder? As the seals an such in it should have deteriorated in the same time frame? Would the pressure from the new wheels tend to blow the seals in the old master cylinder? And can they be rebuilt? Years ago it was no problem to get a kit to rebuild them. But now I see no kits for sale....

Hey Olylawnboy,

If you don't have confidence in the integrity of the Master cylinder i'd just go ahead and replace it........The seals do breakdown after time..... not as fast though due to not being exposed to heat as the wheel cylinders are........

Brakes are paramount......gotta be reliable.......Check those rubber hoses too..... they may look good on the outside but the inside can start collapsing causing obstructions and eventually brake failure..... Eek!  I just found one of my rear lines that had collapsed....... Brake Fluid came out real slow.......... I replaced the hose and it flows stong...

There are good new ones on the market.. Thumbs Up! 1.. I haven't seen kits in a long while either.... Drogar-Thinking(LBG)

I agree. In the grand scheme of things, master cylinders don't cost that much and you DO need to stop. When in doubt....

Well I forgot to thank you guys for your comments and as fate would have it I procrastinated with replaceing my master cylinder... now I have to as half of it gave out and started to leak a little fluid. Guess I better do the flex lines at the same time Grin
