the green bus Is going to the shop for body work.  There is a retired body guy in the town over that really wants to help me with it. His shops been empty for the last few years and he needs a little excitement back in his life  41   The green bus has a pretty nice dent in the front on the corner and all around the spare tire is crushed in.  The rest of the bus was painted with a paint brush too,  crazy hippies   110

I'm really excited to learn a bit about body work, and this guys ill with it! He needs a lot of stuff done to his house, so we're exchanging labor. He needs a new roof badly, so i guess thats my first task when it gets a little warmer out.   I know my bus is gonna be tied up forever now, but i can't pass up the deal.  His arguement is that after i start driving it , i won't wanna work on the body anymore.  sounds about right.  can't wait to show ya guys the progress!!     between the cosmetics and mechanical work , i hope to be a official Bus driver by June. we'll see, Space Captain is gonna be taking up a lot of my time this spring and summer.  The guys and i wanna hit the road again for a while, which means lots and lots of work for us.
Did i mention we eat of dumpsters while we're out there.   LOL
Panera Bread dumpsters are a delicacy.  More fresh bread than humanly possible to eat, fresh sandwiches, pie and fruit too.   For any of you "free-gans" out there its the way to go.

I live close to reno and about 2 two 4 months I'm  going to have my bus go to the shop. the passenger front had a dint the size of a small deer in it. Maybe because that is what the prev owner hit. and if your guy is too far, he might know someone in my area?

28 28  me, B and Esme made the journey to mexico at the end of the year.  Esme went ahead of us, towed behind by B's father.  Esme had sat for about 5 years maybe more.  it took me a lot of talking and convincing to finagle her out of the previous owner but eventually my passion prevailed.  doing all that sitting, up in pittsburgh, uncovered throughout all seasons took a toll on her body.  when i got her home i was completely ecstatic but somewhat overwhelmed since i'm no mechanic or welder or anything close.  however, i did know that Esme's main issue was rust... a lot of it.  so the solution we came up with was mexico!  spend the winter away from the cold rain and snow (pittsburgh, right!) and get the work done at the same time.  a lot of people laughed, plenty of nay-sayers and critics, also some support.  so now Esme is at the shop, getting the attention and care she deserves.  i am totally impressed by the level of skill as well as the ability to look at any situation, no matter what the condition, and think "we can do this" of the mechanics down here.  the cost difference of labour in mexico vs back home is astronomical.  basically they are stripping her, removing ALL the rust, welding new tin, sanding, finishing and painting her for less than the cost of the panels alone if i'd ordered them on the internet.  and i love the fact that it's all custom work, done by people who are doing what they do best.  i love going over to the shop every week to check on the progress and see the way they are reconstructing something that by all means could have been another candidate for the junkyard.

just thought i'd share my bodywork antidote.  i will post some pictures of the progress if i can figure out how.   24

I believe it. my mom and dad go down there every year for 6 months at a pop. they drive a motor home towing a little car down and back. two years ago they go in a bad crash with the little car. the pics looked like a crushed coke can i don't even know how they lived though it. And that is what there mechanic said to them "I CAN FIX THAT NO PROBLEM" any were else the car would have be scraped. not there the car now looks better then new. and they did it with in a week! so my parents could drive home on time.

Sounds like a good deal mrhandler. I just would suggest that you give these guys a little extra for their hard work. It's only fair to pay what their labor is worth.  Thumbs up! 2 Thumbs up! 7
