hey maybe some one here knows....

I am trying to remove a Vanagon driver seat, from the 77 westy. It doesnt move. I was wondering if it just rusted shut or it was an unnatural fit to begin with. I would like to keep it in one piece before I rip it to pieces 10 eusa_wall

Doesn't move at all, or doesn't move far enough forward to remove? If it doesn't move at all just spray the tracks with some PB Blaster and tap with hammer back and forth. Won't move far enough forward is a little catch on the door side slide rail that you have to switch out of the way with a screw driver, just a little latch that is hard to describe other than it's small.

I think I'm having de ja vu (sp??) about one of the first posts I read when I entered the bus world.  I'm searching for the post, but haven't come up with what site it was on.  I remember PB Blaster, BFH, and a 2x4.  Does the seat wobble, shake, or shimmy at all when you move it from side to side or back and forth?  Does it feel like it's bolted in? If it's on the slides then unless it's super rusted it should shake a little.  Perhaps some strategic blows with a small BFH (oxymoron?) on the sides and front.  Try to get a good look to see if any welding has been done on the sides or in front perhaps to stablilize the seat or make it safer.

It has no wiggle at all. no visible welding I had wifey sit in ant rock back and forth, while held lever and had breaker bar at back of the seat.
needless to say it didnt work, but she enjoyed the ride! eusa_dance

I don't remember how the slide lock mechanism works, maybe one side is unlatching and the other isn't. Have a look under the seat while wifey tries the lever, look to see if both sides unlatch when she pulls lever. Wifey may enjoy that too!
