So im re-doing the flooring on my 1970 westy and i have a question on part of it. well of course i do other wise what am i doing on here, right? haahaa ;O). Ok so i have grinded out some rust and put rustolium stuff on it then i have started insulating the floor so i can do carpet BUT should i put something between the insulation and the carpet since the floor it self has the rivets or bumps or what not. Or should it be fine just putting the carpet straight down on it?

ok. I've seen people put strips of carpet padding down in between the ridges of the floor, then a layer of padding, then carpeting. or - srips of insulation, then a 3/4" plywood subfloor, then etc, etc...... I had to have an immediate temporary solution so I used a thick slab of soft styrofoam that molded itself to the ridges, then a remnant piece of carpet cut to fit the floorspace like a glove. Had to have a quick floor for a camping trip. I eventually want to put in a snap together wood floor for which I'll use the subfllor method.

If your bus leaks at all, I wouldn't do anything, as everything mentioned will trap moisture and cause serious rust issues in very short order.\
If yours stays dry, then go for it. The laminate snap together flooring looks badass and is very functional in terms of ease of maintenance and durability. One of the local guys did his camper with it and it's really, really nice.

yea my buddy used the pergo snap together hardwood flooring and its nice and i thought about it BUT i have a dog who would probably scratch it up. So for my dogs sake i thought i should just do the carpet to help her stand inside as well

Not a bad idea. I put pergo down throughout most of my house, and the dogs bust their ass on a regular basis when they start playing chase. So far, there's no scratches from that or anything else. Pretty durable stuff.

yea i have had a couple people tell me it doesnt scratch easy but like you said they place chase they fall....can you imagine that game of chase if i were driving haahaa...it would be like roller disco jackass style. My buddy also puts a carpet OVER his pergo while driving so things dont slide and thats a good idea too. But carpet has the better feel on feet when its 40 degrees in the morning haahaa P.S. Im not sure if any of you are on samba as well but why dont they talk as much haahaa...i have gotten all these replies on here about everything i post and i have posted 2 things on samba and not ONE word said on either of them except "DONT POST THIS HERE POST IT IN BAY WINDOW" they read it why didnt they respond to it haahaa

They like fighting and being assholes more than they like VWs. There's several that are genuinely nice folks, but there's a lot that act as though they're doing everyone a favor by telling 'em to use the "search" button. Unless you've got 2000 posts on there, you're a newb and they treat you like crap. Takes the fun out of it. No one like public ridicule, even in a virtual world.

Hey everyone. What is opinion about insulating the sides behind the panels? After the windows are leak proof, could I insulate it? And if, with what?

There's several options for this one, but NONE of them involve anything that will absorb and hold moisture. Household insulation, spray foam, etc will all hold moisture and contribute to rusting. Search on ebay for FATMAT or DYNAMAT, not cheap, but not really cost prohibitive. More designed for sound than temperature. Lots of people I know use the silver bubble insulation and some spray adhesive. The silver bubble stuff comes from Lowes or Home Depot, is very cheap, won't absorb water, and insulates well. It doesn't do as well with the noise part, but does help. I used duct insulation from Lowes. It's self adhesive, comes on a roll for about $15, and it took 5-6 rolls to do my whole interior, except for the ceiling and floor. Made a huge difference in the noise. There's a thread somewhere on here about this topic, and some pictures posted as well. Do a search on insulation or duct insulation and you should be able to find it. Never mind, here it is: http://www.lovemybus.com/forum/the-soap-box/heatin%27-a-bus-t2404/0/

I did my floor with 3/4" bamboo. The wood floors these days have an aluminum type finish on them. It's very durable. I'm on theSamba but I'm not an ass! Their classifieds are why I go there. I'm a newbie there, I've only been there since 2005 with 1299 posts ( I just checked!)

The rants got so bad, Everett removed the whole forum.
It still has the asses there though. Their retorts are in shorter blasts now.
