i am starting to cut off all body that has rot and replace with new panels.  i am doing both panels on front wheel wells, rear left quarter and rear left wheel well.  does any body have some tips for me on how to take off the rotted panels?  thanks a lot -Jeff.

Google that Metwiz site.  There's supposed to be a lot of information and instruction on panel replacement as done by "Kelly", the guy that owns the shop.

Not certain but I believe that dog legs (the front wheel arch area) are all spot welded. If so, then drill them out and slide it off. All new replacement panels will need to be tweaked in order to fit. Take your time, measure twice and cut once. Good luck. Do lots of research before ordering, cutting, or welding.

If you're going to do this yourself, get a 4" grinder. Get a wire wheel to fit and a few cutting wheels.
Use the wire wheel to find the factory spot welds. you have to drill them out. Go to the aformentioned site and look it up.
Use the cutting blades to cut off the bad metal.
I also have a Dremel to make small cuts.
 It takes alot of fitting to get it right, but it's not something you do more than once if done right.
I have a thread on   www.vwrides.com  in the bus forum  under "74 Westy" . It might help.
 If not, check out the other threads- PPP on there is a metal wizard.
 Don't be afraid to go for it. I built my '58 bug without ever having welded before and I literally replaced the bottom 6" of the whole car.
It's also on there under " Saved 1- not for purists" in the Beetle forum.

Here is a link to some rust repair we did this weekend..................... Itlives  (Mike) and myself helped a friend and replaced some rusted panels.................. Nice detail pics.......... It's kind of scary when it starts but if you dive in and keep at it you can learn a lot.............    The car was a 69 Ghia ............
